..Zenny Youngman

In my 51st year, I've become preoccupied with death.  My deteriorating body is a daily reminder that, before long, my children will be fitting me for an urn.  It's to the point that I sustain injuries in my sleep.  A month ago, I tore an ACL during an attack of Restless Legs.  More recently, I detached a retina achieving REM sleep.

The body and soul are intertwined.  Perhaps this explains why my bathroom reading is confined to matters of philosophy.  I am reminded of a Japanese Zen master who, near death, said, "I don't want to die."  And when his students pressed him for some last words of wisdom, he stated, "I really don't want to die."
