The sportscaster reminds his audience that the contest being played is just a game and urges us to be mindful of what's "really important."  He mentions family and friends and I think about this.  What's really important, I conclude, is that people never have to contemplate what's really important.

On the adjoining television, cameras catch the ruined and the wretched.  A blonde voice intones, once again, that her "heart goes out" to those at whom we gawk.  If only those poor fuckers needed heart transplants. 

I look down at my skinny arm and watch my dermal levee break.  Dark red blood flows into the plastic bag like a donation from Lake Pontchartrain.
