sugar and spice

"It's too pink."

I am scanning samples of M.A.C. concealer arranged in a grid pattern on my computer screen.  Like a forensic cosmetologist, I've already matched the remaining particles of my daughter's powder foundation to Studio Tech NC30.  It's obvious her skin calls for less red and more yellow in the concealer.  I steer her toward the NC20.

It has been almost one month since my soon-to-be-18 year-old daughter moved into the Alhambra.  Internet shopping for makeup is but one new skill I've learned.  I've also learned to wash panties without actually looking at them.

She's been through a lot, poor girl.  But she loves me and she understands the healing power of forgiveness.

"Lip pencil?  Go with 'Spice.'  It's a no-brainer."
