you can always get what you want

I've come up with a plan to avoid war and halt terrorism.  Why don't we give this Bin Laden chap what he wants?  Hear me out.

From what I can gather, Mr. Laden is offended by the presence of infidels in Saudi Arabia.  He wants U.S. troops out of Islam's sacred land and he wants an apology.  So what's the big deal?  Saudi Arabia is a sacred shithole and everybody knows it.  It's hot and dry and sand gets into your potato salad. As long as we can continue to suck its oil like a ten dollar whore, who needs to be there?  Not this infidel, I can tell you.  And an apology?  That's nothing!  I'll be happy to deliver it myself.  Haven't you ever seen the opening scene in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid ?  Sundance is winning at cards and his opponent, ignorant of Sundance's identity, accuses him of cheating.  Butch wants to leave the saloon, but Sundance won't go unless the card-player apologizes.  Butch finally prevails upon the accuser to apologize, reminding him, "You don't even have to mean it."

We can leave, continue draining the oil, and apologize without meaning it.

Problem solved.
