April 22, 2002 sisters
You know from the title page I am the third of five children. The two above me are sisters; the two below me, brothers. I write about the two who raised me--my sisters.
My sisters are six and four years older than I. The older one taught me to appreciate art and natural beauty. She taught me about justice and tolerance. She gave me a moral compass which, unfortunately, fell out of my pocket and broke. Couldn't find true North for a while. The other sister taught me how to be a man: to take a beating; to play cards; to drink; to drive; to drink and drive. Practical things. As far as I'm concerned, she invented fun.
Both sisters always took care of me. They don't hold grudges about the hurts and scares I've given them. My sisters still take care of me. I hope they always will.
