making of a silverback

I am a lightning-rod for advice.  I have a knack for causing a delusion in others that, somehow, they have all the answers, that they possess the formula for inner-peace and happiness.  I am amused by this.  About 100% of the time, these life-counselors sound like they are trying to convince themselves of their own advice.  This is because, about 100% of the time, that is exactly what they are doing.  For the record, I do not think any of them have even most of the answers, much less all of them.  They are just well-meaning, defective humans who, through no fault of their own, fail to realize exactly how full of shit they are.

Here's one I've heard a lot lately: "Be Yourself."  Whenever you hear people ask you to be yourself, you can bet this is the last thing they want.  They really want you to be Them-Selves.  Almost no one wants you to be yourself.  Every time I am My-Self, for example, the person asking for Me becomes angry, disappointed, or wounded.  If you want to reduce or eliminate your circle of friends, then be yourself.  It works.
